University of Sydney Library Collections

Most of the Library's collections are arranged according to the Dewey Decimal Classification System. See this page for more information on call numbers, from our catalogue help pages.

For details of the collections in our libraries, see the individual library pages.

Reserve

Reserve collections are operated in most Libraries. They are short loan collections designed to ensure the availability of books and journal articles required for course reading. Loan conditions for Reserve collections may vary. Normally only one or two items may be borrowed at a time, for use within the Library for one to two hours.

Overnight loans are available for some items.

Please check with your Library about this collection. The Short Loan collection in Fisher Library mainly caters for course reading in the Faculties of Arts, Economics and Education.

Short term loan ranging from three to seven days exist in a number of libraries for high demand items.

For academic staff who want to add digital course readings (electronic reserve), see this page on the Course Online Readings Service (CORS) service

Storage

Older material from Library collections is held in Storage. Such material will have Storage as its location in the Library catalogue.

Items can be requested from the Information Desk in any library, or using the online form. Check the Library catalogue for more recent editions of the items, which are likely to be easier to get.

Theses

The Library holds copies of University of Sydney Ph.D. theses and Masters (by Research) theses. See Theses@Sydney for more information.
