Saving your files
Files can be saved to:
- A USB device (flash drive, memory stick, zip drive,etc) that you connect to one of the USB ports on the front of the PC or the side of the monitor. This is the most secure place to save your documents. (Note: executable files or password protection on your USB may prevent access)
- By default files are saved to a temporary area on the PC (Temp D: drive, or in some cases, to the My Documents folder on this drive).
- Files can then be emailed as an attachment using a web mail account or copied to a USB drive.
- Note: All files on the D drive are deleted regularly
To help you find your documents on the workstations, there are four icons on the desktop which link to the different file locations:.
- USB Drive - opens up your USB drive and folders
- Local Disk (D:) Temp - opens up the Temp D: drive
- My Documents - opens up My Documents (on the D drive)
- GetMyDocs - finds the temporary internet files that have been saved without a meaningful description.
You can also open My Computer to manually search for documents.
You may need to close Internet Explorer before you can see the My Computer icon on the desktop.
- If you have a program file (a file with an extension such as *.exe, *.bat etc) on your USB Drive, you will not be able to access the USB on a Library workstation for security reasons. Password protection on your USB Drive may also prevent access. Please use a computer in an ICT Access Lab
