Configuration of Library computers

The University of Sydney Library provides computers in its public areas to assist clients with their research.

Why is the Library restricting access to its computers?

Due to long queues and ongoing complaints about access to computers, the Library has decided to implement an authentication system to regulate access.

Regulated access is also necessary to comply with the Use of ICT Resources Policy of the University.

The Library recognises that independent researchers and other visitors use the Library, and that part of the role of the Library is to fulfil a 'public good'. Access can be negotiated for visitors.

What is available on Library computers?

Library computers provide access to the Library catalogue, Library electronic resources including ejournals and databases, the Library and University web sites, and the Internet.

Some computers also provide research tools such as Microsoft Office and EndNote.

Who is eligible to use authenticated Library computers?

The Library aims to provide priority to its core clients - staff and students of the University of Sydney.

Other users such as graduate borrowers, ULA members, community borrowers and others who have a Library card may also use authenticated computers.

How do I login to an authenticated Library computer?

Please enter your Library Borrower Number into the box on the screen. Your Library Borrower Number is on your student card (15 digits) or Library card (13 digits).

Please logout when you have finished using the computer, using the yellow Logout button.

How long can I use a computer for?

Computers are set up with various time limits - 15mins, 1 hour, 2 hours or more. A label on the monitor will indicate the time limit for that computer. The time limit will be visible onscreen, and you will be notified when 10mins remains in your session.

Please note. In some libraries, once you have finished your session, you will not be able to login again until a certain time has elapsed.

What if I don't have a Library Borrower Number?

Members of the community, students and staff of other universities are welcome to join the Library for an annual fee.
