About the Library Catalogue
The Library has several catalogues. The one you need to use depends on the type of publication you are looking for and the date the Library acquired it.
The Online Catalogue lists materials added to the Library's collection since 1971, including books, conference proceedings, audio- visual materials, theses and most serials. Start your search with this catalogue. It lists materials held in all the Libraries - note the location as well as the call number. The catalogue also shows whether an item is on loan and the date an item is due for return. Help screens are available on the Online Catalogue, or consult Library staff for assistance.

Card Catalogues
Generally, items acquired before 1971 are listed in one of the following card catalogues.
Main Author/Title Card Catalogue
Located on Level 3 of Fisher Library, this is an alphabetical listing of older material other than serials. Entries are listed under author and sometimes under title or name of series. You can only search by subject when the subject is a person or an institution. This catalogue lists materials held in Fisher, Storage and most Libraries.
There is a separate microfiche subject catalogue for the pre-1971 items listed in the Author/Title Card Catalogue.
Main Serials Card Catalogue
Serials are continuing publications such as newspapers, periodicals, journals, magazines, annual reports and the transactions of societies. A serial is usually listed in the catalogue under its title.
While most serial titles appear in the Online Catalogue some older titles are still listed only in the Serials Card Catalogue. You may need to check both catalogues. This catalogue lists materials held in the Fisher, Storage and other libraries, except for those listed with their own card catalogues.
Other Library Card Catalogues
Some other libraries in the University of Sydney Library system have their own card catalogues that list their holdings of books and serials.
