Creating permanent links to items from the Library Catalogue
You can create links to a book or other item from the library catalogue on your own web page or in WebCT. The catalogue has a unique URL for every item, it is called a permanent link. All you have to do is find that permanent link and copy its URL from the catalogue screen.
Find the Permanent Link
- Search the catalogue by Keyword, Title, Author or Subject until you find the item you wish to link to.
- Click on the title to open the record if you are choosing from a list, see the example below.
-
In the above example the URL is http://opac.library.usyd.edu.au:80/record=b2065003
Reserve items
When you search for Reserve by Unit of Study or Lecturer, you will not see the permanent link.
Example:
- Search by Reserve, Unit of Study:
- Type: HSTY 1088 (Australian History: and introduction - tutorial readings)
- Select the second item from the list: Anzac tradition
- There is no permanent link.
To find the permanent link you need to do a new search by Title:
- Start over
- Click Title
- Type: Anzac tradition
- The URL in this example is http://opac.library.usyd.edu.au:80/record=b1997226
