Selecting Output Styles

Output styles are the bibliographic formats EndNote uses to arrange the in-text citations and bibliographies contained in a document. They are derived from the instructions to authors given by many academic journals and general style manuals such as Harvard or the MLA handbook.

To select styles:

  • Edit > Output Styles > open Style Manager
  • Find the style(s) you need. (Type the first letter of the style name to jump down the list.)
  • Tick the box next to the styles which you may regularly use. They will now appear in the Edit > Output Styles drop-down menu.
  • Close the Style Manager

To apply a style to citations and bibliographies:

  • Edit > Output styles > Highlight your chosen style
  • Click a reference, and click Show preview at the bottom of your EndNote library to preview the appearance of ths style.

The Library provides some amended Style files.
More can be found using the EndNote Web Styles Finder (Help > Web Styles Finder) which connects to the EndNote support site, http://www.endnote.com/support/enstyles.asp
