Ovid Autoalerts

To import references from an Ovid AutoAlert into your EndNote library, you need to specify their format. The best time to do this is when you initially set up your AutoAlert. At the bottom of the page where you choose to save your search as an AutoAlert, and enter your email address, there are a number of AutoAlert output format options. The correct format for importing references into EndNote is:

  • Fields - Complete Reference
  • Citation format - Reprint/Medlars

If you already have AutoAlerts set up you can alter the format of the references:

  • Open the relevant database and click Saved Searches
  • Log into your Personal Account
  • Select the Autoalert
  • Click Run search
  • Click Main search screen
  • Click Save search history and save the Autoalert in the usual way with the correct output format:
    • Fields - Complete Reference
    • Citation format - Reprint/Medlars

When your Autoalert arrives in your mailbox:

  • Save the references as a .txt file
  • File > Import
  • Browse to and select the text file you have just created.
  • Choose the appropriate filter, ie. if your alert is from Cinahl use the Cinahl(Ovid) filter.
  • Click Import.
