Direct Export | Saving References to Import | Importing references into Endnote using a filter file

Direct export of references into EndNote:

Direct Export can be used for all databases on the Proquest platform, but with all except Dissertations & Theses Full Text there are problems with the way author's names are imported. When importing journal articles, the author's family name is treated as the given name and vice versa. Therefore, if direct export is used each entry will need to be edited.
Direct export can only be used when Endnote is installed on the computer that is used to search the database.

  • Do your search and select references by clicking the checkbox beside each one, or click Mark all on page
  • Click export
  • On the Export citations page, click Export directly to ProCite, EndNote or Reference Manager
   
  • EndNote will open. Select the EndNote Library you wish to use.
  • You will need to edit each author's name

Saving references to import into EndNote:

  • Do your search and select references by clicking the checkbox beside each one, or click Mark all on page
  • Click export
  • On the Export citations page, click Download in a format compatible with ProCite, EndNote, Reference Manager and Refworks
   
  • Click File>Save As and save as a text file.

Importing references into EndNote using a filter file:

  • Open Endnote
  • File>Open
  • Choose a reference library in the Select a Reference Library window
  Select an Endnote Library  

  • Click Open.
  • The Choose an Import Filter dialog box opens.If it does not open:
  • File > Import…
  • The Import dialog box opens:
  • Click Choose File and browse to the downloaded .txt file of references you wish to import.
  Import Box  
  • At Import Option choose the appropriate filter.
  • If the correct filter is not displayed in the picklist, click Other Filters...
  • The Filter Manager opens.
  Choose Import Filter  
  • Highlight the Proquest filter and click Choose
  • Click Import
  • The citations from the database should now be in your Endnote library. Check the imported references to ensure that the data has been imported correctly.
