Managing your File Attachments

Take your PDFs (or other file types) with you whenever you move your library by setting your preferences to copy new file attachments to the PDF subfolder in your library DATA folder and create a relative link.

Set EndNote X1 Preferences

  • Start EndNote
  • Edit>Preferences>URLs & Links
  • Check the Copy new file attachments to the default file attachment folder and create a relative link box.
  • Click Apply.

Insert File Attachments Into Your EndNote References

  • Download the file to your computer.
  • Go to the relevant reference in your library.
  • References>File Attachments>Attach File....
  • Browse to and select the file.
  • Click Open.
  Select an Endnote Library  
  • Relative links are indicated by a filename only when you run the cursor over the icon.
  • The drag and drop method can also be used to insert files into your references.
