Adding the EndNote X toolbar and submenu

If your EndNote X sub-menu does not appear under Tools, or the EndNote X toolbar is not included in the list of available toolbars:

  • In Word: Tools > Templates and Add-ins
  • Click Add
  • Browse to the EndNote X folder and change Files of type to display All
  • Highlight the file EN10CWYW with a Word icon beside it.

  • Click OK
  • EN10CWYW.dot will now appear in the Templates and Add-Ins window.

  • Click Add again and display all files
  • You will need to select either EN10Cwyw.WordXP.wll or EN10Cwyw.wll, the choice dependent on what version of Word you are running.
    • For EndNote X with Word XP or 2003: EN10Cwyw.WordXP.wll.
    • For EndNote X with Word 2000: EN10Cwyw.wll.
  • Click OK
  • Both files will now appear in the Templates and add-ins window. Ensure both files are ticked.

  • Click OK
  • You should now see the EndNote X toolbar listed under View > Toolbars, and the EndNote X submenu under Tools
  • Note:
    • When adding the EndNote X sub-menu you may be asked about Macros. It is important that you accept and enable the macros - if you disable the macros the options on the sub-menu will not work.
    • If the option to enable the macros is greyed out you need to change your Word Security Settings: Tools > Macro > Security > change setting to Low
