FAQ
Duplicate references
By default, a reference is considered a duplicate if the Author, Year, Title, and Reference Type match a reference already in the library.
The Duplicates option in the Import dialog box provides the following choices:
- Import All: Imports all references, including duplicates
- Discard Duplicates: Imports all references except duplicates
- Import into Duplicates Library Duplicate references are imported into a library called File-Dupl.enl, where "File" is the name of the library into which you are importing.
It is recommended that you either Import All and check for duplicates once all of the references have been imported, or import them into the duplicates library. You need to check that the items identified as duplicates are in fact duplicates.
Searching for and deleting duplicates
To find all of the duplicate references in an Endnote library:
- With the Library window open, References > Show All References
- References > Find Duplicates. EndNote highlights all of the duplicate references in the library.
- References > Delete references to delete the duplicates
