Field Codes in Word
If you see a long list of strange codes in your MS Word document, but printing does not show these codes, you're probably viewing field codes. They look like:
{ ADDIN EN.CITE <EndNote><Cite><Author>>Edwards</Author> <Year>1998</Year><RecNum>93</RecNum><MDL> <REFERENCE_TYPE>1</REFERENCE_TYPE><REFNUM>93</REFNUM> <AUTHORS><AUTHOR>Edwards, Peter H.</AUTHOR></AUTHORS> <YEAR>1998</YEAR><TITLE>Adar Awstralia : rhestr o enwau Cymraeg</TITLE> <PLACE_PUBLISHED>Batlow, N.S.W.</PLACE_PUBLISHED><PUBLISHER> P.H. Edwards</PUBLISHER><ISBN>0646360477</ISBN><KEYWORDS> <KEYWORD>Birds -- Australia -- Dictionaries.</KEYWORD><KEYWORD> English language -- Dictionaries -- Welsh.</KEYWORD></KEYWORDS></MDL> </Cite></EndNote>}
- In Word click on the Tools menu, and then Options.
- Make sure you are looking at the View tab.
- Un-check box next to Field Codes
- If you have a PC, you can also hold the Alt key down and press the F9 to toggle field codes on/off.
- Viola! Your field codes will have disappeared and your citation will be shown as it will print.
