FAQ
How do I change the use of brackets, eg, use Jones (1999) in in-text citations?
The output style will dictate the format of all of the in-text citations, eg. (Jones, 1999)
To vary the format of the in-text citations so that both (Jones, 1999) and Jones (1999) appear in the same paper:
- Enter the author's name as a natural part of the sentence and then use EndNote's edit citations command to remove the author name from the individual citation:
- eg, if you wanted a sentence to say "Jones (1999) said today is Thursday" the original sentence would be typed in as "Jones said today is Thursday."
- After you insert the citation, the sentence would say "Jones [Jones, 1999 #145] said today is Thursday."
- If the instant formatting is on, or once you format the citations the sentence will read "Jones (Jones, 1999) said today is Thursday."
- Drag the mouse pointer over the citation to highlight the citation
- Tools > EndNote > Edit Citation.
- In the Edit Citation dialog window put a check in the box beside Exclude Author.
- When you reformat the bibliography the edited citation will say "Jones (1999) said today is Thursday."
