RSFTSTYLQ\0harvardflinders_usydHarvard,Veterinary Science Updated 8 November 2005 For students studying Veterinary Public Health Management at the University of Sydney. There is no official manual of the Harvard style and many different versions are in use. This EndNote output style is based on the Harvard style used at the School of Nursing & Midwifery, Flinders University, available at: www.lib.flinders.edu.au/resources/sub/healthsci/referencing/contents.html. Accessed March 2005. The main points to note in using this style are: 1. In-Text Citations a. When inserting temporary citations in the manuscript, remove author's name if author is cited in text. In EndNote 7 this can be done using the Edit Citations function and checking the Exclude Author option. b. If specific page numbers are to be added to an in-text citation, add the number(s) following the @ symbol at the end of the temporary citation. In EndNote 7 this can be done using the Edit Citations function and entering the page number in the Pages box. c. If adding other details to an in-text citation (e.g. volume or chapter numbers), add the full details at the end of the temporary citation. In EndNote 7 this can be done using the Edit Citations function and inserting the data in the Suffix box. 2. Bibliography a. The Style Manual recommends that journal titles should not be abbreviated. All the journal article references in your library should give the full journal titles. b. For Conference Proceedings, EndNote output styles are never able to include the place of publication in the bibliographical reference. Published conference proceedings should always be entered in your EndNote library as Book Sections (if the reference is to one paper) or Edited Books (if the reference is to a whole volume of proceedings). The Conference Proceedings reference type should only be used for unpublished conference papers. c. This EndNote style has not been configured to deal specifically with less common types of material (e.g. patents, maps). Such references may need to be edited in the formatted paper. Alternatively, edit the Bibliography Templates in this style to provide for the particular reference type. d. For personal communications, this style says that personal communications should not be included in the reference list as they are untraceable. ============== Output style written by Sarah Graham, University of Sydney Library.
