General collection

The Burkitt-Ford Library has an extensive collection in the fields of biostatistics, epidemiology, health economics, pre-clinical medicine, preventive and social medicine, public health, and human nutrition . Access to these is via the Library catalogue.

Reserve collection

The Reserve Collection contains books in heavy demand and is held behind the loans desk. E-reserve contains photocopies of articles and chapters of books in PDF format.

Search for the name or the number of the Unit of Study in the Library catalogue. For example, you can search for PUBH5001 or Introductory Biostatistics to retrieve a list of both print and electronic reserve items for this unit of study. Alternatively, you can search by lecturers' names.

Ask library staff at the loans desk for items you need.

Reserve books can only be borrowed for 2 hours at a time, or can be borrowed within 2 hours of our closing time for overnight loan. Reserve loans cannot be renewed.

Serials collection

The Serials collection is an extensive collection of reports and journals, both in print and electronic formats. Bound volumes of serials (or journals, periodicals) are shelved in the Stack. Current, unbound issues of most serials held by us are stored on the Current Serials shelves located in the middle of the main reading area.

Rare Books and Special Collection

This consists of books which once formed the core collection of the Australian Institute of Tropical Medicine Library in Townsville and the School of Public health & Tropical Medicine Library, our predecessors. It also has important books from the former Burkitt Library's collection. All these can only be used in the Library, they cannot be borrowed.

Folio collection

The Burkitt-Ford Library Folio collection consists of larger sized books, atlases shelved separartely from the general collection.
