Where Are The RESOURCES IN THE CONSERVATORIUM LIBRARY?

LOANS DESK

The Conservatorium Library is a specialist music library.
It is one of the largest music collections in Australia, comprising books, scores, serials, audio visual materials, digital resources and performance sets.
The Library serves the staff and students of the University of Sydney, as well as the Conservatorium High School and the Conservatorium Open Academy.
Membership of the Library is also available for the general public through the Community Borrowing Scheme. Graduates and Tertiary students may apply for membership through the Alumni and ULANZ schemes.

	The Conservatorium Library is part of a network. There are two libraries with significant music collections in the network. Community and Graduate borrowers may use their card to borrow from these, and other libraries across the network. Scores, books, sound recordings and DVDs are available for loan Journals and reference material are for use in the library Some sound recordings may accessed online through Naxos Music Library and Classical Music Library Check and renew loans, and pay fines in MYLOANS For details regarding loan periods, recalls, fines, and placing holds, see Library website. The SELF CHECK MACHINE is also availabe (barcode should be on front of item).

	DVDS / BOOKS Are filed in Dewey order - a system which uses a broad number to describe the general subject, and numbers after the decimal point, specify aspects of a subject. Music 780 (general number) Sacred Music 781.7 (specific form of music) Quarto (larger books) have a 'Q' in front of the number.
	SCORES and CDs Are filed using an alpha -numeric system which describes instrumentation and form. A Piano sonata by Beethoven would be: P4 - Piano sonatas BEE - First 3 letters of composers name 71 - Running number A particular musical work may have multiple manifestations including Mini Score, Full Score, Vocal Score, Orchestral Set

The Copycard used at the Con Library costs $2.00 (including 70 cents credit).
