Searching Indigenous Peoples Databases

The Indigenous Peoples Databases are a collection of bibliographic databases that provides access to a wide range of media from published and unpublished material on all aspects of Australian Indigenous and multicultural issues. Searching these databases will allow you to locate references to relevant information for your study. You will need to search the library's catalogue to see whether the references are held here.

Click in the square on the left of the "Indigenous Peoples Databases" or the individual subset database you have chosen

*Click on the "Start Searching" button on the top right hand corner

This will bring you to the search screen for the database or subset you have selected. There is a text box for you to enter your search request.

* Enter the terms you wish to search
* Click on the search button to the right of the text box.

The information which you will receive is a citation listing of journal articles, books, newspaper entries and conference proceedings dealing with the topic you have searched.

The most important information is:

  • Title
  • Author
  • Source
  • ISSN or ISBN

This will give you all the information required to find the article, either in this library's catalogue or through another library. Any publication held in the University of Sydney Library will have a "holdings attached" button. If you click on that it will take you to the catalogue entry on the library catalogue.
