Chinese Collection

There are more than 40 titles of ts'ung-shu (series). Three of the general ts'ung-shu provide good coverage of the whole sphere of traditional Chinese learning.

The Chinese collection is strongest in classical literature, especially poetry of the T'ang period. Modern literature is also well covered. Emphasis is placed on the author's original works rather than studies and critiques.

In relation to history, there are various editions of all the official histories. These are complemented by series of historical source material. Emphasis is on the Ming and Ch'ing period.

The East Asian Collection also has a collection of nien-p'u (chronologoical biographies), as well as a complete set of Buddhist and Taoist writings. Lei-shu (Chinese encyclopaedic works) are represented in the collection.
