Accessing electronic resources

The library catalogue and all electronic databases can be accessed from your computer. Use the links in the navigation bar above, and find out what is required for off-campus access.

Orientation

For an introduction to the library and to familiarise you with such electronic information tools as e-journals and databases in your special area of interest, please contact us. Training for reference managment software EndNote is also available.

Classes for your students

We conduct classes for undergraduate and postgraduate students to teach the following: introduction to the library and catalogue; advanced catalogue searching; the use of electronic databases (i.e. online publication indexes) commonly used in Engineering, such as Compendex, Web of Science, ABI Inform, INSPEC, Current Contents, Engineering and Applied Sciences Online, SciFinder Scholar; the use of electronic journals collections, especially IEEEXplore and ScienceDirect; advanced searching techniques, including Boolean logic; Internet searching; EndNote reference managment software. Special Reserve and E-Reserve

Special Reserve is for high demand material and is located behind the information desk. Students may borrow the material for 2 hours, or overnight after 4 pm. Materials include heavily used textbooks, course materials provided by lecturers and other items. We can also scan individual articles or book chapters and make them available online for easier access. CORS: Course Online Readings Service explains what you need to know. To make use of this service, please contact us. Past exam papers are made available online, provided they have been released for publication.
