The Collections

Microforms

There are extensive collections of microform items such as microfiche, microfilm and microcard. There are machines for viewing and printing microforms. Microforms are not for loan except for InterLibrary Loans of non-serial items.

Microcards have a call number with an XTA prefix, and are shelved on level 2 of Fisher Library. The Library has facilities to view (but not print) microcards.

Sound cassettes, slides, film-strips, games, CDs etc

These can be borrowed for two weeks with 5 renewals unless recalled. Cassette players may be borrowed from the Audio-visual office for use within the Library, and there are facilities to view slides and film strips.

Videos and films

Video cassettes are located in two separate areas:

  1. Audio-visual reserve collection videos are housed in the AudioVisual office and may only be viewed in the Library. Arrangements can be made with academic staff to borrow videos for class viewing.
  2. Open Access collection videos are shelved with other audiovisual items outside the Audio-visual office. These may be borrowed for two weeks with 5 renewals, unless recalled.

In-house use

Videos can be viewed on players in the Library and there is a viewing room for larger groups. It is advisable to book in advance for the use of videos and video players. This can be done in person or by phone with the Audio-visual office during office hours. Please note we cannot take email or voicemail bookings. Videos can be viewed after office hours. Please ask at the Information Desk for assistance.

Only Sydney University videos may be viewed in the Library.

InterLibrary loans

InterLibrary loans are available for loan within the Sydney metropolitan area. To arrange an InterLibrary loan, contact the AudioVisual staff directly with at least one days' notice.

16mm films (motion pictures) are available for viewing within the Library but these must be booked in advance. Loans are available for academic staff. InterLibrary loans are also available.
