Fisher Reserve quick search tips tutorial

Searching the catalogue

From the Library homepage select Catalogue. Click on the Reserve and enter unit of study or lecturer's name.

If you want to search by unit of study enter the unit code or name:
eg PSYC 1001 (or) Foundations of management

Press ENTER or click on the SEARCH button.

A consolidated list of all materials held in Reserve for your course will be displayed. Items are listed alphabetically by title.

The left of the screen displays the title of the book, journal article (not the journal title), etc.

The right of the screen displays the location (ie. Fisher Reserve), and where to find it in Reserve. Also shown is the item's status - ie if it is available (check shelf), or if on loan, then the time due back.

Books

Books are found on the shelves at the call number listed, eg 331.0994 156 . The number before the space refers to the subject matter. The number after the space is the location number. An analogy would be the first part of the number being the street name and the second part being the house number.

Journal articles

Articles are available electronically on the library catalogue. If you know the author or title of the article you can search the library catalogue direct.

You can also access articles by searching under the Unit of Study or Lecturer's name via the Reserve link on the catalogue.

When you locate the article click on the hyperlinked article title and then the Connect to the full text article link. This link will connect you to the article.

You will require your UniKey login and password to access artilces off-campus.

Private copies

Private copies are items provided by the lecturer and held behind the service desk. They must be requested and borrowed from the desk staff.

Not on the shelf? Looking for other copies in the library

You'll notice that all the titles are in blue print. Clicking on a book title will provide a hyperlink to the catalogue, showing not only the Fisher Reserve copy but all other library copies of that item. This is useful to find out what else is available if the Reserve copy is on loan, or if you'd prefer to borrow a copy for longer than the 2 hour Reserve loan.
