Update your legal research skills

These classes are open to all University of Sydney students (including LPAB students) and staff.
You are invited to come to as many classes as you like. They are free.
Unless otherwise stated, classes are held in the Computer Training Rooms in the Law Library.


Law Library Tours
Come to a 30 minute introductory tour of the Law Library and learn about the facilities and services we provide.

This is an introduction to the major online resources of the Library and services offered to students.

Finding Legislation
This class will focus on how to find statutes, delegated legislation, bills and other Parliamentary materials from a variety of online sources.

Finding Cases
This class will focus on how to find reported and unreported decisions in electronic form and introduce students to the online case citators Casebase and Firstpoint.

Exploring Westlaw
Don't graduate without knowing how to use this database! The Westlaw trainer will show you how to find full text case law, journal articles and legislation from a wide variety of jurisdictions (including USA, UK, Europe and Australasia).

Resources for Environmental Law
Bring along your assignments and research topics and we will help you explore the range of resources available. The focus will be on journal articles and relevant web sites.

Justis
Justis 2.0 is an online legal library of UK, EU and Irish law dating from 1163 to the present day. The Justis trainer will show you how to best utilise this resource.

Lawbook Online
Lawbook Online is a comprehensive collection of Australian legal material including law reports, journals and commentary. The Lawbook Co. trainer will show you how to best utilise this resource.

Getting started on Lexis.com
Lexis.com is another large full text legal retrieval service. It covers an impressive range of jurisdictions. With a few pointers much of the world's legal literature will be available from your own PC.
