Coggeshall : Schooner David Porter [plate]
A history of American privateers, and letters-of-marque: interspersed with several naval battles between American and British ships-of-war.
New York: C.T. Evans; London: Low, Son & Co., 1856.
A valuable history by a writer who spent most of his life at sea, commanded privateers during the War of 1812, and embellishes his text with his personal experiences. Coggeshall had a long and often adventurous seagoing career, during which he kept detailed journals. Upon his retirement he used these journals to produce several books of seafaring memoirs.
