Information Literacy in the Faculty of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources
As a student at the University of Sydney you need to develop subject knowledge and a range of other generic skills which the University calls Graduate Attributes. These outline to employers the skills that you have when you graduate. It is these graduate attributes that your future employers are most interested in and they are taught as an integral part of your degree program.
One of the key generic skills is Information Literacy. Information literacy is defined as "an understanding and a set of abilities enabling individuals to recognise when information is needed and have the capacity to locate, evaluate, and use effectively the needed information."1
The Library, and in particular your Faculty Liaison Librarians - Alison Turner and Karen Black, have worked with academic staff in the Faculty to develop a series of sessions that enable you to develop your information literacy skills. These sessions are integrated into specific units of study.
For further information please contact your Faculty Liaison Librarians.
The information literacy section of this guide will point you to useful resources that you can use to develop your skills.
