About Information Gateways
Information gateways are also known as subject gateways and provide links to high quality subject-specific resources. Most information gateways contain summaries of the contents of resources and provide an index. They are produced by subject specialists and information professionals.
Information gateways index a smaller number of Web pages than search engines and subject directories, however, the resources are more likely to be relevant and authoritative.
Australian Agricultural Gateways
AgLinks
AgLinks is a directory of Australian Internet sites relating to agriculture. Web sites are judged according to their Australian content, relevance to farmers, the rural community or agribusiness, and whether they contain interesting, unique or relevant information.
AGRIGATE
Produced by the Universities of Melbourne, Adelaide and Queensland and the CSIRO. AGRIGATE is a collection of agricultural resources, both online and offline, in a wide range of agricultural subject areas including agribusiness, farming systems, animal science, aquaculture, food sciences, field crops, meteorology and viticulture. The resources are selected by specialist librarians and members of the agriculture research community.

The US Agriculture Network Information Center (AgNic)
AgNIC provides access to quality agricultural information web sites selected by the National Agricultural Library (USA), Land-Grant Universities, and other institutions. Subjects covered include animal husbandry, aquaculture, farm management, forestry and plant sciences.
International Economics Gateways
Biz/ed
Biz/ed provides Internet-based learning materials for the economics and business education community. It is funded by the Joint Information System Committee (JISC) in the UK. Biz/ed provides access to a catalogue of web sites (subject directory).
Official Government Gateways
Australian Commonwealth Government Information and Services
The web site provides comprehensive information on the Federal Government by providing access to over 500 Federal Government web sites and indexing more than 1,000,000 pages. It is mainly text-based and is maintained by the Department Of Finance and Administration. The information is readily accessible. There are tagged pages for individuals, students, businesses and non-residents; Quick Links to government sites and contacts; as well as keyword searching.
Australian Capital Territory
Material on the web site can be accessed by browsing through topics of interest or by using the search facility. The range of information is extensive and encompasses all areas of government, health, tourism and business. There are also specific pages for older persons and for youth.
New South Wales
The web site can be searched by keyword, by selecting from a menu of specified categories or by clicking an icon for the 12 key government service delivery areas. There are links to legislation, parliament, the NSW government directory and to various communities such as indigenous, seniors, women and youth.
Northern Territory
The web site contains comprehensive information on all aspects of life in the Territory including government, business, housing, transport, education and tourism. There are links for communities, publications and a calendar of upcoming events. There is also the facility to submit questions online to the staff at the NT Library.
Queensland
The materials presented on this website are provided by the Queensland Government as a source of information for residents and visitors to the state. They cover the full range of government services, how to access government departments, business and tourist information. There are links to current news, weather, employment opportunities and legislation. The website can be searched by browsing in a topic area or by the keyword facility.
South Australia
South Australia Central provides access to online information and services in South Australia. The website covers both State and local government and non-government services and information, including access to bill payment and transactions, the South Australian Government Services Directory and tourism and travel information.
Tasmania
The web site, by Service Tasmania, simplifies and makes Government processes more easily accessible. It can be searched by keyword or by selecting a topic from the menus that have been categorized by broad subject areas. There are also alphabetical indexes of subjects, titles and Government. Quick links are provided to services such as Centrelink, Job Search and ATO Assist.
Victoria
The website of the Victorian government provides comprehensive information on all aspects of life in Victoria. The topics that can be selected from the extensive menu include the Arts, Business, Education, Health, Information Services, Leisure and Tourism, and Utilities. There are also links to information on current issues in the news that is updated daily.

OnlineWA provides a single entry point to a wide range of WA government information and services. The website provides access to information on the Western Australian Parliament and legislation as well as to an extensive range of information about living in and visiting Western Australia. It provides residents with the facility to pay government-related bills online and purchase government publications.The website can be searched by keyword, by selecting a subject area from the menu.or by the alphabetical index.
New Zealand
govt.nz is the Official Gateway to New Zealand Government. The website provides an overview of New Zealand and its government, access to government services information and employment opportunities, as well as government agency contact details. There are links to current news issues, government seminars, and recently released papers. The website can be searched by selecting from menus of topics of commonly requested information.
