The Invisible Web

About the Invisible Web

The Invisible Web (or Deep web) is a term given to significant parts of the Web that are invisible to general purpose search engines like ANZWERS. It is thought that the invisible web is growing significantly faster than the visible web. The Invisible Web contains vast amounts of high quality information that's accessible to you, using your Web browser or plug-in software - but you have to know the exact Web address of the site/document as you cannot locate it using a search engine like Lycos or ANZWERS. Examples of material that make up the Invisible Web include Power Point, Word, Excel, rich text and PDF documents. By far the largest part of the Invisible Web consists of databases. There are tens of thousands of Web-accessible databases that are simply inaccessible to current generation search engines.
