Archaeology Databases
- Electronic databases provide references, sometimes the full text, of articles in journals and magazines. This is a list of databases that are relevant to Archaeology.
- Current University of Sydney staff and students may access many of these from their home or office.
AEB: Annual Egyptological Bibliography
Published by the International Association of Egyptologists in cooperation with the Netherlands Institute for the Near East. It contains bibliographic references to journal articles, books, book reviews, book chapters and conference papers, from 1992+. The print index is in Fisher Reference 913.32 153.
AHB: Australian Heritage
Formerly known as HERA, this bibliographic database is produced by the Australian Heritage Commission. It includes articles from published and unpublished material on Australia's natural and cultural environment from 1987+.
AHRR: Australian Historic Records Register
Bibliographic references to source documents such as letters, diaries, photographs, financial records, posters, sketches, recipe books, catalogues, minute books, registers and other materials on Australian history.
ANL: Anthropological Literature
ANL is a bibliographic index which includes Anthropology, Biological Anthropology, Cultural Anthropology, Physical Anthropology, Social Anthropology, Archaeology, Art, Demography, Economics, Ethnohistory, Folklore, Genetics, Geography, Geology, History, Linguistics, Music, Psychology, Religious Studies, and Sociology, from 1969+.

APAIS: Australian Public Affairs Information Service
Lists articles by and about all aspects of Australia from 1978+. It contains current affairs, archaeology, humanities, law, literature, politics and the social sciences.
The print version is in Fisher Reference 994 21 from 1945+.
ARCH: Australian Architecture Database
Useful for post-1788 Australia, industrial archaeology, national heritage architecture. Covers articles written since 1980+.
Art Index
Bibliographic database covering 1984+.
Lists articles art, archaeology, architecture, photography, visual art and museum studies.
The print version is in Fisher Reference 700 7 from 1(1929/1932)- 68:2(Apr. 1997).
Avery Architecture Index
Contains references to articles on the architecture, archaeology, urban planning, furniture and decoration, historic preservation, and interior design of the US, Britain, Europe; Japan; South America and Commonwealth countries.

BAS: Bibliography of Asian Studies
From 1971+, this database contains references to a variety of topics, including art and archaeology.
BHA: Bibliography of the History of Art
Current research on European art from late antiquity to the present, and American art from the European discoveries to the present, from 1973+.

Current Contents
Updated weekly, it indexes more than 3,800 science, social science, arts and humanities journals. It provides access to the table of contents of journals together with complete bibliographic information about each article.
DCB: Database of Classical Bibliography
Primarily covering classical Greek and Roman literature and art, DCB also includes the Byzantine Empire and Graeco-Roman Egypt, from 1976-1987. Its print equivalent is the L'Annee Philologique held in Fisher Reference 880.16 9, Vol 1 1924-1926+

Dyabola
Catalogue of the Deutschen Archaologischen Institut. It lists journal citations,conference proceedings and books for the classical archaeology of Europe and the Ancient Near East, including Egypt.

EAI (Expanded Academic Index)
EAI is a full text database covering a large range of topics which includes archaeology and anthropology in general from 1980+.
NB Not all articles are full text.
EVA
Australian enviromental issues including: heritage, town planning and urban design.
Georef
The American Geological Institute's database containing over 2.2 million on geology, including paleontology. Records for North America have been kept since 1785, and other areas of the world since 1933.
HST: History of Science, Technology and Medicine
Covers journal articles, conference proceedings, book reviews, and dissertations from 1980+, dealing with the history of science and technology. Useful for the origin of inventions; eg, canoes, pottery, etc.
LEXIS/NEXIS News
LexisNexis is a full text service. It contains almost 10,000 Australian and international newspapers and business sources. Most newspapers have an archive of 5+ years.
PCI (Periodicals Contents Index)
PCI provides a retrospective index to journal literature in the Humanities from the earliest dates of journals listed up to 1960

Social Sciences Plus
Covers all the social sciences including anthropology, archaeology and politics. Some of the articles are in full text.
Web of Science
Not just for scientists, this is actually three databases covering a large range of topics. It includes the Arts & Humanities Citation Index and the Social Sciences Citation Index from 1985+.
