AAA: Australian Archaeological Association, Inc
Members include professionals, students and others with an interest in archaeology. The AAA holds an annual conference in November/December each year and publishes the journal Australian Archaeology (held in Fisher Research 994.005 23) twice a year. They also produce a Code of Ethics for the profession.

AACAI: Australian Association of Consulting Archaeologists
The Association’s main objectives are concerned with professional standards and ethics, and maintaining a national register of consultant archaeologists. It is affiliated with the Australian Archaeological Association Inc.

ASHA: Australasian Society for Historical Archaeology
ASHA was founded in 1970 to promote the study of historical archaeology in Australia. In 1991 the Society was extended to include New Zealand and the Asia-Pacific region generally, and its name was changed to the Australasian Society for Historical Archaeology. Membership is open to all those who are interested in historical archaeology, at both professional and amateur levels.

New South Wales Heritage Office
This office advises the government, the Heritage Council and the wider community about the management of heritage across NSW. It maintains a computerised database, the NSW State Heritage Inventory, designed, on completion, to list all recognised heritage. The Office also produces publications on heritage policy and guidelines and administers shipwrecks.

New South Wales Department of Environment and Climate Change
DECC is the government agency responsible for developing and maintaining the parks and reserve system, and conserving natural and cultural heritage, in NSW. It is also the main government agency charged with the protection of Aboriginal sites and heritage in New South Wales through the National Parks and Wildlife Act, 1974.

Register of Professional Archaeologists
Mainly North American in scope, the Register was established in 1998. Archaeologists voluntarily register and must agree to a code of conduct and standards of research performance, hold a graduate degree in archaeology, or related discipline and have substantial practical experience.
the Register is a joint task force of the Society of Professional Archaeologists, Society for American Archaeology, Society for Historical Archaeology, and the Archaeological Institute of America.

Society for Archaeological Sciences
Founded to establish a forum for communication among scholars applying methods from the physical sciences to archaeology and to aid the broader archaeological community in assessing the potentials and problems of those methods. The S.A.S. promotes such communication through its distribution of the S.A.S. Bulletin, the Journal of Archaeological Science, the Plenum Press series, Advances in Archaeological and Museum Science, and SASnet, an electronic network.
