Research Skills for Architecture, Design & Planning

Cite & reference your sources

Essays, theses and assignments need to formally recognise the resources from which you have obtained information. This is called citing or referencing and is done within the body of your text and in the bibliography at the end.

Academic Honesty and Plagiarism

Read the University's Academic Honesty in Coursework Policy
Read the University's Student Plagiarism: Course Work Policy and Procedures document, which includes a compliance statement for individual and collaborative work.

Style Guides

There are a number of styles you may follow, the most commonly used in Architecture is the Harvard Style of Referencing. Referencing styles follow rules of punctuation and other details for setting out a bibliography, and for citing within the text of an assignment. See the Library's Citation & Style Guides page for more information.
