Searching SciFinder Scholar : a guide
SciFinder Scholar is a collection of 5 chemical literature and information databases produced by CAS (Chemical Abstracting Service). It consists of
- CAplus - online access to Chemical Abstracts, +24 million journal article and patent citations from 1907 to date. Also covers conference proceedings, technical reports, meeting abstracts, dissertations and books
- CAS Registry - catalog of +25 million organic and inorganic substances that have been reported in the scientific literature. Includes some calculated and experimental property data. Coverage generally goes back to 1957 .
- CASREACT - database of +8 million single- and multi-step reactions from the chemical literature going back to 1840
- CHEMLIST - database of +232,000 regulated substances. Includes US, foreign and some state regulation lists
- CHEMCATS - database of +7 million commercially available substances from over 700 suppliers
- MEDLINE, the National Library of Medicine's database of +15 million references in the biomedical journal literature from 1951 to date The databases are seamlessly linked. For example, you can search for a substance (Registry), click to view the available property data, look at reactions involving your substance (CASREACT), view regulatory information or look for commercial suppliers (CHEMLIST, CHEMCATS), or look at the literature references relevant to the substance (CAplus and Medline).
