The purpose of this guide is to list relevant Internet sites, Library databases, electronic journals and printed reference sources relating to Australian history. This is not a comprehensive guide or gateway but rather a starting point to information in the area. Other useful resources will appear under General History.

• Current University of Sydney staff and students may access many of these from their home or office using an Extro Account or the Remote Access Service. In some cases, passwords may be available.

NB Remember, there may be printed copies of the journals, especially earlier issues, in Fisher Research Library.

Australian Biography Online
A web based biographical resource profiling major Australians. The project draws from material collected for Film Australia’s Australian Biography TV series.

Australian Cooperative Digitisation Project, 1840 - 1845
Also known as Ferguson 1840-45, this project is a digital conversion of Australian serials and fiction of the seminal period 1840-1845. It includes: periodical publications and fiction.

Australian Federation Full Text Database
Contains the debates and conventions preceding Federation, as well as a large number of books and pamphlets, including the Quick and Garran "Annotated Constitution of the Commonwealth of Australia", and "Studies in Australian Constitutional Law" by Andrew Inglis.

Australian Literary and Historical Texts
This is a collection of Australian literary and historical texts from the time of European exploration and settlement until the early twentieth century. See also the AustLit Gateway site.

Documenting a Democracy: Australia's Story
Maintained by the National Archives, this searchable site provides full text primary sources from Australia's foundation to today.

Documents on Australian Foreign Policy
Documents from the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, ranging from 1937 to 1959.

Records of the Australasian Federal Conventions of the 1890s
Full text records of the debates from the Australasian Federal Conventions of 1891 and 1897/8.

State Library of NSW - Online Collections
An ongoing digitisation program to improve access to significant parts of the State Library's extensive collections. These include: the Papers of Sir Joseph Banks, the Matthew Flinders Electronic Archive and Antarctica Collections.

The site contains biographical and collection databases for searching, an encyclopedia on military history and online exhibitions.

Australian Women's Weekly 1946 -71 Index
A database created by researchers at Flinders University that indexes the magazine.

Australia's Oral History Collections: a National Directory
Maintained by the National Library of Australia, this site is a searchable database of Australian oral history recordings. The collections document Australian life, customs, politics and traditions.

Directory of Archives in Australia
A listing of archives in Australia and their addresses and collection strengths.

National Archives of Australia
It includes links to files, exhibitions and an index to the records held in the Archives.

Pandora
Maintained by the National Library of Australia, Pandora is an archive of networked documentary resources relating to Australia. It includes the ANZACS, the Olympic Games sites, Mawson's Hut Anatarctic Expedition, Australia's involvement in Vietnam, etc.

Picture Australia
Hosted by the National Library of Australia, this is a searchable site of photographs of Australian people, places and events.

RAAM
The Register of Australian Archives and Manuscripts is a guide to collections of personal papers and non-governmental organisational records held by Australian libraries and archives.
