The purpose of this guide is to point visitors to relevant sites relating to linguistic studies on the Internet and the World Wide Web. This is not a comprehensive guide or gateway but rather a starting point to information in the area:

Aboriginal Languages of Australia
Part of the WWW-VL, this site has annotated links to 140 resources for about 40 of Australia's indigenous languages.

The American Heritage Dictionary of the English Language
From Bartleby.com, this is the 4th edition and includes appendices covering Indo-European, and Semitic, roots.

Australian Linguistics Network
Lists Australian societies, university linguistics departments, forthcoming conferences and other general Australian and New Zealand resources.

ASEDA - the Aboriginal Studies Electronic Data Archive
The Australian Institute of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies (AIATSIS) holds computer-based materials about Australian Indigenous languages in the Aboriginal Studies Electronic Data Archive (ASEDA).

Center for Applied Linguistics
A non-profit, private organisation providing up-to-date links and resources on the teaching and learning of languages and on language and culture.

Ethnologue
An electronic version of the 13th edition of Ethnologue, the Ethnologue Language Name Index, and the Ethnologue Language Family. Index contains the entire text of the original printed volumes (except language maps).

iLoveLanguages
Formerly the Human-Languages Page, the stated purpose of this site is to list, categorize, and promote Internet resources related to language learning, education and use.

The Linguist List
A moderated site providing links to information on the profession, jobs, mailing lists, conferences, research support, pedagogy and linguistic publications.

Linguistics, Natural Language, and Computational Linguistics Meta-index
A Stanford University guide to the best linguistic resources on the web. Contains an impressive array of links to a wide range of American, Australian and European linguistic sites.

The Macquarie Dictionary
Includes the Macquarie Book of Slang.

SIL International
Formerly the Summer Institute of Linguistics, this site has links to academic domains in linguistics, including Computing, Sociolinguistics and Translation.
