Databases and databanks
BodyMap
Human and mouse gene expression database.
Cancer Genome Anatomy Project
The project is administered by the U.S. National Cancer Institute. The site includes the Human Tumor Gene Index, the Cancer Chromosome Aberration Project, as well as links to NCBI Genetic Resources.
Developmental Genome Anatomy Project
Objective: To identify apparently balanced chromosomal rearrangements in patients with multiple congenital anomalies and then to use these chromosomal rearrangements to map and identify genes that are disrupted in critical stages of human development.
DNA Data Bank of Japan
MESSC, Japan National Institute of Genetics, Center for Information Biology.
DNA Patent Database
Allows free access to all DNA patents issued by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
European Bioinformatics Institute Databases
These include: EMBL Nucleotide Sequence Database - a comprehensive database of DNA and RNA sequences collected from the scientific literature, patent applications, and directly submitted from researchers and sequencing groups.
UniProt Knowledgebase - a complete annotated protein sequence database
Macromolecular Structure Database - European Project for the management and distribution of data on macromolecular structures
ArrayExpress - for gene expression data
Ensembl - Providing up to date completed metazoic genomes and the best possible automatic annotation.
IntAct - Provides a freely available, open source database system and analysis tools for protein interaction data.
Genome Database
International collaboration in support of the Human Genome Project. Mirror site at Walter and Eliza Hall Institute in Melbourne.
NIH National Human Genome Research Institute
NCBI Human Genome Resources
Gene Database - A new database of genes and associated information is now available for searching in Entrez.
RefSeq - Reference sequences of chromosomes, genomic contigs, mRNAs, and proteins for human and major model organisms.
OMIM (Online Mendelian Inheretiance in Man) - A guide to human genes and inherited disorders maintained by Johns Hopkins University and collaborators.
dbSNP - A database of single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) and other nucleotide variations.
Aslo includes reagents, the genomic sequence, cytogenetics and maps and markers.
Human Gene Mutation Database
Maintained at the Institute of Medical Genetics Cardiff.
Government sites
U.S. Center for Diseases Control. Office of Genetics and Disease Prevention
This site provides visitors with information about human genetic discoveries and how they can be used to improve health and prevent disease.
Oakridge National Laboratory
Human Chromosome Launchpad provides links to research resources for each chromosome 1-22, X and Y.
US NCBI (National Center for Biotechnology Information)
Human Genome Resources include:
GeneBank: the NIH genetic sequence database, an annotated collection of all publicly available DNA sequences.
OMIM: Online Mendelian Inheritance in Man is a database catalog of human genes and genetic disorders.
Genomes: The whole genomes of over 800 organisms can be found.
LocusLink: provides a single query interface to curated sequence and descriptive information about genetic loci.
Human Genome Project
The U.S. National Human Genome Research Institute
(NHGRI) heads the HGP, an international research program designed to construct detailed genetic and physical maps of the human genome, to determine the complete nucleotide sequence of human DNA, and to localize genes within the human genome.

Organisations
Academic Info Genetics: Organisations and societies
This site provides links to genetics organisations worldwide.
Australian National Genomic Information Service
ANGIS is a service available to subscribers that offers a comprehensive system of software, databases, documentation, training and support for biologists.
GENETests
Funded by the National Library of Medicine of the NIH and Maternal & Child Health Bureau of the HRSA GENETests provides a directory of laboratories worldwide (with a North American emphasis) providing testing for heritable disorders. Links to genetics clinic directories, including centers and providers in Australia, and the United Kingdom. It gives an introduction to genetic counseling and testing concepts; summary reports for health care payers, health policymakers, and authors on availability of genetic testing.
GENEClinics
GENEClinics is a companion site to GENETests. It is funded by the NIH and was developed at the University of Washington, Seattle. GeneClinics is an expert-authored, peer-reviewed medical knowledge base consisting of concise descriptions of specific inherited disorders and authoritative, current information on the role of genetic testing in the diagnosis, management, and genetic counseling of patients with these inherited conditions.
