Project Management
Check the Library Catalogue for journal articles
When you are using a full-text database, or when you get a direct link to the full text of your chosen article, you may print or save it and need go no further.Check the Library Catalogue
But this is not always the case with indexing and abstracting databases such as Compendex and Business Source Premier. Not every article from these databases will be available through the library. Look for a link saying Check University of Sydney holdings or Check University of Sydney Library catalogue, or similar. A new window will open to the library catalogue, and a search for the journal happens automatically. If you see the message 'No matches found' it means the library does not hold this journal, and you need to try an article from another journal. If the library does hold the journal, it may be in electronic format, in hardcopy, or a combination of both.Electronic Journals
The majority of our journal subscriptions are now electronic, and may look like this:
- Check that the article you are looking for is included in the holding. In the above example the first link will not access articles before October 2001. But if you use the second link, access is available from 1 December 1987.
- Before you click, note the volume, issue & page numbers, and the title of your chosen article.
- Click on the link, then look for the required volume and issue, until you find the article.
Journals in Hardcopy
If you find a record like the example below, it means we only have a print subscription.
- Check to see if the year/month, volume, issue of your chosen article is available. Our subscription to this journal starts with volume 8 in 1992.
- Click on Latest Received to see the most recent issues.
- Make a note of the call number (620.007_16 in this example) and go to the journal shelves.
You can photocopy the article in the library. Library Staff are there to help if you have further questions.
